Machine doubling. Note the affected areas. All show the same directional push on the outside edges of the devices. On a doubled die, the raised devices will show an enlargement of the devices on the central area of them. When compared the Machine Doubling reduces the devices, a doubled die enlarges the devices. That is what I'm seeing on your coin.

So when you see the affected areas on the outside/inside of the devices, then it is Machine Doubling pushing the contour away and adding a shelf that is flat on that area. Now take a second look now back at your coin and you will see what I'm talking about. Sorry, I don't have many images of a DDR on a JFK half dollar reverse.

It is caused by the machine. A doubled die is caused from a doubled die.

Yes worth face value but consider saving it as an exemplar for your collection. It may help you with determining whether something is MD in the future.
