Hello,

I am new to the coin community and do not have any past knowledge on coins or errors.

I started to become interested after finding this quarter one day.

It is an Ohio 2002 US quarter and from searching on my own I believe it could be a broadstrike reverse error? The rim of the coin on the tails (reverse) side is flattened and smooth. I am unsure on the errors or coin language so I wanted to ask this community.

Can anyone inform me on this quarter or the possible reason for the error? It has intrigued me and I am wanting to research/learn more and search for others! (I apologize if the image is not great).

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the forum. Your coin is just damaged, someone ground away the edge. A broadstrike affects both sides as it is struck without the collar and the whole coin spreads out.

Thank you-I see that it's very equal around the rim so makes sense someone ground it away. It definitely got my attention-I'll be sure to look out for more now!

Thanks again!

If it were a broad struck issue, both sides would be affected and no reeds on the edge of the coin. Just an altered coin as already mentioned.
