Hi! I recently found this coin while penny roll hunting, have any of you see this before? There are patterns on the reverse of the penny that I thought indicated a lamination error.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I could be wrong, and often am, but it looks like road rash/belt sander to me

Hi Wade - thanks for the reply. I thought the same thing at first, but then I noticed the patterns around the maple leaf on the reverse:

I'm not sure exactly what happened to it, but I don't think it's a lamination issue.

Maybe some sort of beach coin? The reverse certainly looks to have the graininess - maybe it was pinned between shifting sand, and something abrasive? Either way, the discolouration on the top of the obverse seems to indicate some form of environmental damage.

Odd. Doesn't look like a lam issue.
