I've got a 1973-D LMC that I believe is a possible MAD (Miss Aligned Die) clash. What do you guys think?

It's damage, not a die clash and not a MAD.

It's a little hard to see in the photos, so I took more. That circular area is protruding out, it's not dented in, so I don't think it's post mint damage.

The color is not a match. So I feel it is/was something on the coin. Note how it looks like it peeled away on the lower loop on the bust. If it were on the planchet, the color would be exactly the same as the planchet.

Yes I see what you are referring to but what ever it is matches perfectly with the rim of an overlaid cent of the same year. your inpute has been very helpful, Thank You.
