2020, well it's been a certainty different year than most. One in which will be remembered and talked about for quite some time. It's been filled with joy, anger, anxiety, fear, uncertainty and confusion. For some of us, it's been a good year financially, most others it's been rough.
For me, I've been spending this tail end of the year preparing to merge, liquidate, and absorb my small stake in my local coin shop and will be rebranding it with the a new LLC, name, and primary stake in ownership. Exciting, but very busy...and this time of year I'm always looking for something I can do to help others or bring joy and with the current health situation and my current schedule it's been too tough to figure out ways to do so.
As a LCS owner, I feel it's my responsibility, not only to provide a service to the coin and bullion community, but also to educate and do my part to bring the next generation (and last) into this hobby that we all love so much.... So I though about what I really enjoyed when I started out and coin roll hunting came to mind. Something I have far less time to do nowadays, but when I do, and you pull out a silver coin, or and old indian/wheat penny, it's still give you that joy and feeling like the first time.
I've been monitoring forums and subreddits and been noticing a recent increase in finds. My hypothesis being that with the coin shortage, deep dark corners of vaults have been pulling out old boxes, as well as the general public returning lots of older coins that usually they never get around to returning. Further more people have been stuck home giving them more time to search rolls and what not.
That said, and knowing people may be going back into lockdown, or looking to keep from going crazy stuck at home, I wanted to base a way of giving back around that.
So to my challenge.... Let's make the end of this year about togetherness and giving back.
Coin roll hunters, if you find a silver coin, put one back in! If you've had a rough year, give back a smaller denomination. If your year has been good, maybe give back a higher if you can spare it or lower if you can't. ....That joy of finding a silver coin is now shared with another that will find it. Sure it's better to find a quarter than a dime, but doesn't mean it wouldn't bring you the same exciting feeling!
Other who aren't coin roll hunters and are able to give back to the hobby, it would be awesome to see you guys putting a silver coin in circulation, or even a common
Indian cent, some wheaties, ect.
For those participating, DM me, or reply letting me if indeed you have fulfilled the challenge. Why? Because I want to match every completed challenge with an addition silver
War Nickel that I'll be putting into circulation as well. I don't need proof and will simply take your word for it... I'll be putting this in a few places and if I can get 100 people to complete the challenge by end of year, not only will I put those 100
War Nickels into circulation but I'll double it to 200.
Lets triple (or quadruple) that joy of finding something cool in pocket change and end this year on a positive note!
