Wondering if any colonial collectors can tell if this well worn and probably cleaned coin might be a coin minted at New York's Manchin Mills mint? I can barely make out the date but looks like 17?7? Thanks

While I am not an expert that looks like a Connecticut copper to me.

I agree with GC43... I have a 1787 Connecticut copper cent in just slightly better condition and I can relate to many of the distinguishable details in yours. Here's a random internet grab as it shows the details 100 times better than mine.

I wish mine looked that good!

Some of the Connecticut copper varieties were struck at Machin's mill, however this is not one of the varieties struck there.

Thanks all and I now see this is a CT copper. The Manchin Mill coinage is just really interesting to me as I get more interested in acquiring early colonial copper coins. Thanks again for the input. Stay safe

I agree that the Machin's mill coinage is fascinating. Many of the 1788 Connecticut varieties are attributed to the Machin's mint. Interestingly I found 2 1788 2-D Connecticut coppers [one of the varieties attributed to Machin's mill] metal detecting at an old tavern site on the Newburgh turnpike. Newburgh NY was the location of the Machin mint.

LCutler that's funny as that is the same reason Manchins Mill coins intrigued me. I grew up in that area but never knew Newburgh had that mint. I recall as a kid I found that Very worn CT copper coin (probably about 5-10 miles from mill site) so I thought it maybe came from Manchin but more likely just dropped by some early colonist!
It has made me much more interested in expanding into colonials

Although MM struck several Connecticut colonial varieties, this isn't one of them. It m-a-y be made from copper supposed to be used for striking FUGIO's, though
