I just finished up hunting a box of nickels from my local bank. I got some 40's and 50's, and a single slick Buffalo nickel. I spent about 30 minutes between the loop and the scope trying to get any part of a date but nothing would show up. I resorted to Nic-a-Date and now I kinda regret not taking it to a coin shop, for someone with more expearence to look at for a bit. I ended up discovering it to be a 1915 no mint mark buffalo.

Unfortunately that stuff may make the date come out but also devalues the coin.

Welcome to the show! Awesome find from the bank, while the Indian Heads still manage to find there way into circulation it's a thrill discovering one. Especially early or key dates. Keep searching and thanks for sharing.

Even without a date, a few specific years of the Buff can be identified from design changes:
1913 PDS Type I, from the reverse design
1921 PS, from the ribbons and knot redesign
1923 PS, from the left ribbon redesign
1925 PDS, from the left ribbon redesign
1931 S, from the left ribbon redesign

Your coin could have been narrowed to three years (1913-1915) based on the Type II reverse, ribbon design, and weak LIBERTY.
