I have 3 sets each of 1958 to 2000 Proof sets and 3 sets each of 1958 to 2019 Mint Sets. I originally was going to give them to nephews and nieces for use towards their scout coin collecting badges but none of them are going into scouts. The oldest tried scouts for a year but it got in the way of his sports (and now that he has his drivers license, girl chasing) After talking with them and showing them some of the coins, they just aren't interested in coins.
My thought was to reduce my collection down to just one set, question is what should I do with them? Sell as is, open them all fill up a couple of more albums, maybe send them off for grading and slabbing?

I am only interested in proof coins worldwide including U.S., before about 1960, when Mints around the World started making proof mint product in much larger volumes, and marketing directly at new collectors.

Only problem is that pre 1960 proofs can be very pricey due to rarity.
Some collectors are not attracted to them, because for the most part, they are not cameo with mirror fields.

I used to buy proof sets in the late 1970's and early 1980's, but when it came to sell them, I lost a lot of money in the numismatic aftermarket.

Hang on to them for a little while longer. Those kids will slowly change back into normal human beings and a coin collection will again start looking interesting.

First, the Boy Scouts is what started me on this long journey way back in 1974/75. I'd list them as original on ebay, sending those you'd consider worth grading only if the value is greater than the fees associated.

That's a tough one if you want to maximize profits. My suggstion is to sell the sets individually unless you know there are some choice coins.

You're going to need to put up some photos if you want a reasonable assessment.
