I search 1 -2 boxes per week, and lately I have found little of note. I have been averaging 20-25% copper and 8-10 wheats, all common 40's and 50's.
Yesterday, I stopped in a bank on the way home and asked for a box. It was closing, so they had no boxes available. But, the 2 girls up front offered me the pennies in their personal vaults, all CWR's. I bought them ($25 worth). So glad I did, 4 of the rolls are loaded with wheats!! One is almost fully wheat pennies, the others have less, but still a lot. I have not really gone through them. My young daughter is doing a Whitman folder, and she loves finding them. So, I am saving the rolls for her to really search. Not expecting anything key/semi-key but if I find something, I will post.

I picked up 12 rolls of customer wrapped cents last week. It was one of weirdest group of cents I've ever examined. I got 21% copper from the group, and 3 wheat cents. (1917D, 1943SXF, and 1954). All three better than average Wheat cent finds!  I also found a 1935 2 Groschen coin - minted in Austria! But about 100 of the coins were so filthy, (and smelling of ashes) I could not make out any details on them at all. I soaked them in a Comet cleanser and water solution, and cleaned them up! Amazingly, SEVEN of the coins were Roosevelt dimes, and one was a 64D!  . I have to go through about 2000 nickels to get one silver War Nickel, and the dime searchers seem to have to through about that many to get a silver dime. A very lucky and strange group of coins.  I almost just tossed the ash tray cents back into the roll without even looking! |

1) Don't watch TV or use the computer too much. 2) Learn to search really fast. I can do a roll in less than 5 minutes even if it's a complicated one. |

From seeing this I think I will try my luck on some Lincolns. I am going to get a couple boxes and post my results. I love searching halfs and nickles. I hate dimes and quarters are bearable. I might try dimes again just edge searching, but I still need a 2009D to complete my 65-present set.
I got my two boxs of pennys. I open them up and they are uncirculated rolls of Formative Years. Urg! I wanted to have fun searching today. I guess I can open them up and look for the debatable double die reverse with 6 or 7 fingers.

nice story with the couple of wheat rolls..... but listen to this.....last summer at one of my favorite banks I bought 2 boxes of hand rolled LMC's..... when I got home, I found 2 full boxes of wheaties! so I grabbed the 4 boxes that are re-rolled junk and went bank to the bank to see if I could get more... I was able to trade out another 3 boxes.... in the end, I can up with $83.00 or so in wheaties, a lot of 40's and 50's but 3 full rolls of 43's and 10 or 12 43's in MS condition....I don't think I would ever be that lucky again scoring so many wheaties at one time at face value.....grampa's penny jars are out there, all we have to do is to find them.....Wild Bill |

Can't believe it folks....got my 4th Indian Head penny today. Southeast Wisconsin is really producing I guess. It is an 1865. It is in really poor condition and probably only worth a penny, but who cares...no. 4. This bag is over 30% so far as well with about one third of the bag searched. Will post final numbers in a couple of days. |

Nice Wild Bill. Can't imagine finding boxes of wheats, and I have never found a 1943 in circulation. I may start trying more cwr's.

Box down. Interesting results, nice for a change. some of the rolls were CRW, while 5 were fed wrapped, 2 2011 1 2010 and 2 others. Copper 21% roll high 19 roll low 0 (2010-11 rolls) wheaties: again, my averages are good 16 wheats, oldest being 1936 And then... 2000 WAM!    My second ever! But there's more... 3 dimes,  all in 3 different CWRs lots of canadians plus 2 centennial cents oldest was 1964 not bad for one box! Edited by rachums107

I think I'm goin to move where you are rachums.
I havent really documented my finds before but I'm going to start doing a text file of results for each box I do.
Alright! The results:
Wheat (5): 1945, 1946 S, 1956 D, 1957 D, 1958.
S Mint (4): 1946 S, 1970 S, (x2) 1974 S.
Canadian (1): 1968.
507 Copper (Including Wheat) at 20.28%
Last box I didnt get any S mints but I got 5 canadian, and I got 5 wheats. Wheats must be low in my area.

My little one went through the 4 rolls today. She found 107 wheats, 2 of which filled holes (42' d and 46' d). She also found a 1918, 1926, 1930 and 1937(p's). All of the rest were 40's and 50's. This was about what I thought. No keys/semi-keys, but on a hot day about an hours fun.
