Great find on that flying eagle...my oldest is an 1865.

box today got me 6 wheats. which is above average for me.

and what looks like a small date 1970 s. what do you guys think? the 9 looks a lot more curled in real life under a loupe, than the photo suggests.

So glad you guys got a kick out of me finding an 1857 Flying Eagle cent in a modern cent roll. Strange thing, I used to think that when you found something that old in a CWR roll, you could expect more of the same in the same roll.

No dice, nothing but zincs and common coppers from the 60's and 70's.

Anyway, glad you guys appreciate the fantastic nature of the find... I went to show my sister (whom I live with), the coin - she just yawned and went back to painting her toenails! (no joke)

Still haven't found an IHC, or proof coin of any kind... My brother is a photographer, and used to do all the pictures of items I sold years ago on ebay... I am going to pick up an inexpensive camera, and learn the picture posting procedure. When I do, I'll put up pictures of all of my best finds in the last 18 months or so... He's currently on vacation, so I may not get to this for up to one month...

No question about it - A Flying Eagle is better (IMO)than an IHC, and much rarer when you consider that for only two years (1857 & 1858)were they even minted for circulation...

Numbers games are very strange... I know for example that you have been through MANY boxes of Jefferson nickels - but have not yet come across a 2009-P nickel. I have been through ONE box, and found one 2009-P nickel (along with 7 2009-D's). I'm in the same locale you are (San Diego). It actually did not come out of the one box, but from random rolls I sometimes ask for when I am getting the cents. (So truthfully, I have been through about 1.5 boxes in total).

I also got the idea a few months back to start asking for the occasional roll of dimes. So in the past few months - I have been through a total of about 40 rolls of dimes (maybe 2000 coins) - not even a single bit of silver. Then incredibly, last week I find a 1964-D Roosevelt dime in a Lincoln Cent roll! What kind of odds could you get from a book-maker on finding a silver dime in a Lincoln Cent roll before finding one in a dime roll?

I know that BadThad has been through bunches and bunches of Lincoln cents, and last I heard he had not run across a blank planchet. I got that about 6 months ago...

Maybe only Coppercoins has been through enough cents to get into the long run ... (last I heard - he had gone through more than 2 million). Under a microscope no less.

It may be true that if every coin in every Lincoln Cent roll were examined - you could probably get a coin from 100 different countries! (I got them from 7 countries so far).

And things seem to be heating up for me on these Lincoln Cent rolls. Finding lots of strange stuff now... I Generally go through $20 - $30 of cents a week trying mainly for CWR's. I'm going to up that to $50 this weekend!

Bad Thad never found a blank planchet ?!.. How odd , I found 2 (one copper upset edge that could a IHC or wheat and a zincoln) but I wish bad thad's luck with 99wam lol !

Found this little gem wedged halfway between a roll of pennies in my box search today--clear wrapped box from Wells Fargo. You just never know what you're doing to find in those penny rolls! I have actually been finding a lot of dimes mixed in but couldn't believe I found a silver one!
