Well, it looks like it was caused by that ring circling the rim, and in turn that ring is from Die Deterioration I think. At least, that's my guess. |

The ring is offset inside of the rim, I just cannot see any trace of the bottom of the L at all. It just looks as if there are 2 "I's" side by side. I tried to upload the larger pictures but am still learning the format here.

20 CWRs rolls down. I think this makes box 16 and 10 rolls.  wheats: 15-oldest 1946 (3) copper: 22% little low today, but I think my count was off by a few percent. a few BU zincs, maybe 8-10. I predict that the 1999 WAM in MS66+ is going to be extremely valuable by 2025. All the good zincs will have corroded by then and collectors will want high grade zincs. Save 'em! oldest Canadian: 1951 1970 hole filler!(3 actually) thats all folks! |

grancap74, it appears to be what is called grease filled strike... where some of the lettering appears to be missing. It is a fairly common error, seen by most people as a detriment. I have seen it many time during my roll searching... I was excited the first time I found one, a 19? wheatie... the last two digits were completely missing. Premium on it: nothing. Kefiroth: don't waste your time looking for the '55S... The mint at San Francisco closed down from '55-'67 for renovations. There is a rare variety in which a die from the S mint was re-worked into a '55-D, but I wouldn't count on finding any of those.
Also, did a box of my own yesterday. Except for a small silver lining, it was abysmal.
5 wheaties... All common dates in the 50s.

Two Brinks boxes last nite and I got at least two rolls of 63-P in mint shape. There was one in every roll but very few had more than one. It was like someone was placing them in by hand but I know that can't be. Strange how the coins get dispersed. I know that they are all machine wrapped in the shrink wrap but it was strange.

The 1955S cent certainly exists, and with a mintage of around 44M, you could say it's the "key" (using that term liberally here) to the 1940-1958 LWC set |
