rgathright,
I found a bunch of those as well from all different dates with many different states, kennedy heads, even a pipe coming out of Lincoln's mouth with puffs of smoke coming out. They are counterstamped coins made by different companies to promote products or just sell PMD cents at a premium. Some people collect them and may even pay top dollar for a nice one (dollar being the top I've seen).

The practice of counterstamping coins has been around since the days of the large cent and probably earlier. They used it for politics, bank branding, and company branding.

I keep mine in a pill bottle. It breaks up the monotony while roll hunting - at least that's my experience.

Here is a little history for ya as well... http://www.numistories.com/537/coun...the-history/

Recently there was somebody selling 50-state sets of those counter-stamps on ebay, each state on a different date. It seems like they had a lot available, so they were apparently being made as sets. I've found Nebraska and New York while roll hunting.

I noticed you also had the 84 double ear as your avatar picture. Have you came across one from cherrypicking?

Over the years, I've found four of these. It's been by far the major doubled die I've found the most of.

Speaking of counterstanmps, just got this. Not sure what it is, though. Is it Masonic?

Last night at work, found three 2009s while loading the coin dispenser. Nothing special in and of themselves, but finding three in a roll is pretty hard anymore. One of them was a gorgeously toned but otherwise unmarked P4, too!!
