Cool Lincoln Roll Finds (From Bank Rolls) - Post Yours!

got a 1938 and 1940 canadian pennies in AU (at least) from bag of american cents. also got two of the 2009 Lincoln Cent errors.

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting here, but I've been on here since I started (only a few months ago). So here is a short story of when I started. I got into coins when my grandfather gave me a couple dozen coin books when I was a child. A few months ago, I looked through them and decided I'd try to finish them. So I went to my bank and asked if I could buy some boxes of coins. The tellers looked at me like I was crazy but they sold me two boxes of pennies that they had in the vault. I took them home and looked though them and found 30 wheats between the two, plus about $12 face in copper. I was hooked and a couple months later, I've searched 12 boxes of pennies, 4 boxes of nickels, and one box of dimes. Pennies are by far my favorite.

A couple thousand pennies of assorted dates to look through for errors. Those of you who look for errors, which do you look for? I have seen there are possible errors for these dates (1983-current):

45 Canadian cent (Oldest being 1940, 1961, and 1963)

And finally we have pictures! here are some of the "errors" I have found. Please tell me if they are not errors or correct me if I am wrong.



This cent looks like it has a die crack above the date.

Could this one have possible been struck through something? It is hard to see but the coin is indented, with the rim completely untouched.



Can someone explain to me what this is and why it happens? It seems that the mint mark has slid up and to the left of where it was originally placed. On this coin, it looks like the 2 in the date has done the same thing.



Cud? The bottom part of the R in LIBERTY is filled in. The 2 in the date looks like it has a big blob of metal on it.

And finally, my most recent and probably biggest find that I pulled out of my last two boxes from the bank. Out of the 100 rolls, 31 rolls had dozens of beautiful 1959-P BU cents. There were, on average, 35 1959's in each roll and all look to be "Uncirculated"? Could someone have cashed in their grandfathers stash of uncirculated pennies? That is the only way I can think of that would explain the 1959-rich rolls. They all came in bank wrapped rolls, but not from my bank. Would you consider them to be uncirculated? I think I just got most of someone's collection of uncirculated cents.



In total, I have a little over 21 Solid rolls of BU 1959-P cents. Are they worth anything as they sit? or would they be worth more if I had my bank wrap them and give them back to me?



There are 3 main types of condition they are in, either BU like the bottom coin (most of them), stains that look like water damage? (top left) or scrapes from the bank's wrapping machine.

and among those 59's, I stumbled upon one with a defective planchet. I'm fairly certain that it is not PMD. I couldn't get a very good picture of the edge but it looks like the edges of others with defective planchets.

my neighbor is cleaning out his huge safe and letting me search all his stockpiled coins. first the pennies then on to the bags of the good stuff. large stockpiles of silver coins from 50 years of collecting. can't wait.

and what I thought at first was a sweet misplaced mintmark error, but I don't know much about counterstamps.

1995D - Not an error, appears to be a common gas bubble under the plating.

1999D - Gas bubble, not a collectible coin.

2006 - Appears to be a struck though, need close-up pictures of the area to be able to tell.

1982D - Normal coin, split plate damage.

A lot of people ask about the MM location. The mint used to punch the mintmarks into the dies by hand so they moved a lot. They stopped doing that in 1990 so all coins produced after that are exactly the same with respect to the MM location.

1962D - Not a Cud, it's a common die break and adds no value to the coin. The 2 has been damaged, we call it PMD, post mint damage.

1952S - See above. A Cud is a DIE BREAK AT THE RIM. Simple, common die breaks that don't involve the rim are common and generally not collectable unless they are profound.
