1914 D Lincoln Wheat Cent - Fake/Counterfeit Altered Date 1914 "carved D"

tropicalbats Pillar of the Community United States 6108 Posts	Posted 11/26/2020 8:40 pm A while ago I posted a 1914 with a glued on D, and recently a couple 1944-D coins altered to look like 1914-D. This is another, and less common type of altered date 1914-D, the "carved D". In general these look pretty bad, but even a good one can be spotted by noting the shallow depression around the mint mark where the copper was scraped to develop the D. 1914-D Lincoln Wheat cent - counterfeit "carved D" Report this Post to the Staff

I've seen boatloads of the altered 1944 Ds and some glued on D's but never a carved impression.
