I was curious if anyone on may know the answer to this question.

If proof dies are used to strike a coin more than once, then wouldn't finding a small spread or splitting on the devices of a proof coin just be the second or 3rd strike just showing a spread between each strike?

I'm trying to understand how you can differentiate a doubled die vs a minor pivoted second strike on a proof.

Seems to be lots of info on proof doubled dies, but not much info on what doubling from the second/third strike looks like.

Thank you in advance!

A second/third strike on a proof coin would look identical to typical Machine Doubling. I don't believe it would show any split serifs and the devices would have decreased in size just like MD.

On Machine Doubling on some strikes, the first time, it is sometimes flattened by the second strike. It is called flat field doubling.
