Hi all,
I just bought a complete set of silver proofs for all the 50
State Quarters ('99 - '08).
I'm troubled by what arrived in the mail. Some of the cases have cracks in them. Also, the cases are "backwards" on some of them, i.e. the side that opens is not consistently the same (US flag side vs maroon background side)
And then most troubling -- the quarters in the '99 set are backwards too..! As in all of the "tails" side of the quarters are facing on the maroon side of the case. Every other set has them on the flag side.
I don't think I am looking into this too much, but is there any chance that I am being overly cautious or should I assume that these have all been tampered with? (Which the seller denies, claiming to have bought a set every year and stashed in the closet)
I will say that I did the
tissue test thanks to this awesome forum, using the nickel as a baseline and they passed without exception, showing through very white, which at least has put me at ease that these all haven't been swapped out for clad or something like that.
If they look otherwise unhandled is any of this a big deal? I get that these aren't high dollar coins or anything, but I would still like to have what I thought I was buying.
Thanks to all!
