Not sure what's happening here. The letters look much too thick, and there are splits, some faint, some obvious, on the devices. Could be MD, but I'm not sure.

My experience falls short when it comes to wheat cents I'm afraid.

What do you guys think? Is it just die wear?

Well the die is showing extreme die wear above the motto. But look at the edge and rim. It almost looks like there is a grease issue, or a struck through debris issue on that area. (Looks like a layer fell off that area?)

Appears to be a die wear matter.

I agree with heavy die wear. The area above IN may be a folded Rim Fin or a normal lamination flaw.
