Dumbest question yet: I would like access to the 'trends' which I understand to list potential values of coins. Where and how do I access this information and where does this information come from?

I'm primarily interested in Newfoundland pre-1902 though, I have a growing interest in pre-confederation tokens and some general interest in all pre-1902 Canadian coins.

Any opinions about this info would be appreciated.

Trends is prepared by an experienced coin dealer, and according to it, is based on "dealer sales, wholesale prices, auction results and precious metal prices".

Most prices don't change much from issue to issue. If you are friendly with a LCS, you might be able to get a back issue for a minimum price.

There, fixed it for you.

But yes, ask a coin shop for an older issue, it'll be cheap, if not free.
