Let me have 'em!

As usual with Denver issues, this coin was struck with worn dies. You can see evidence of a poor strike by looking on the obverse, left where the shoulder meets the field. He has some "stretch marks". The die state is actually pretty good, there's some nice details for a Denver issue....which is why I bought this coin.

Another nice one BadThad! I believe there is slight evidence of wear on the extreme high points of the obverse however, the reverse does not exhibit any evidence of wear as far as I can tell. Tell you the truth, I'm a little stumped on this one. If I had to take a guess, I'd say AU58

Let me give it a try. It sure is a nice one. The reverse looks like an UNC with only a soft A in America. I don't see wear. On the obverse the hair, ear and forehead look real nice. Lincoln's jacket looks like he borrowed one of mine. I'm not sure how a soft strike is graded but I would feel comfortable with MS63 due to the nic under Liberty and dot on cheek and under D. I see about 6 small corrosion spots on the reverse. None of those imperfections would prevent me from buying though. nlp

Even with the weak strike I think this would grade AU-58.

Very nice example of this date. It's too bad Abe cut himself shaving that morning! I'm sure that nick is not bad in hand but it stands out in these images.

Tips of the right wheat ear show a touch of wear and the angled obverse shot shows hints of wear on the hair above the ear. The shoulder scratches are a classic example of the planchet marks.

A solid AU58.

HINT: If you look at the cheek there's not even the slightest rub. That is the obverse high point.

LOL! No, that cheek nick does standout in hand. Unfortunately, there's no missing it. It costs this coin a couple of points for sure.

Given the state of Denver mint dies. I would give it MS62BRN.

twjcpj is the closest to my opinion, MS-61 BN is what I give it. The deep check hit, poor strike and the dirt bring it down in hand. And that darn cheek hit is smack-dab in the center, the most obvious focal point IMO.

BadThad,

Why haven't you used your "VERDI-GONE™ - Copper Conservation Fluid" to clean it up. That might help the grade.

There's no verdigris on the coin. LOL VERDI-GONE™ only removes verdigris. Believe me, if there was verdigris I wouldn't hesitate to use it, like I did for my 1909S VDB.

Oh...the correct term is conservation.
