Hello,
I am new to collecting and am wondering if some of you could tell me what you think this line is. It seems to go underneath the design elements on the reverse side of this Lincoln Cent almost all the way across. Cracked die? PMD? Thanks in advance for your guys' thoughtful insight.

Looks like some kind of debris, like glue residue.

Note this coin has been in circulation for a while. On the tops of the devices, the glue/substance is worn off of the devices. Where they are not the highest point, they remain. So I feel it is was added to the coin. (The tops of the worn off areas is still showing the plating, thus it was something on the coin) The weight might be a little bit heavy from the addition to the coin.

A feature like that is often the result of a elastic band.

Thanks guys. Perhaps a quick soak in acetone and then weighing it would find supporting evidence of this line being a foreign substance?

Im pretty sure it is a planchet and/or plating issue. Notice how in the second picture, the top of the memorial doesn't come down in a straight line all the way to the main part of the memorial? There is an indent. Like something kept the normal image from imprinting on the coin. Something that would have to be raised to keep the die from fully imprinting the image on the coin in that exact spot. If it was Glue, residue, rubberband, etc., it wouldnt affect the relief of the design unless it was on the blank planchet to begin with. The memorial top would come straight down like normal, not have a sharp right turn that follows the line exactly, then veer down. It would look like it traveled right behind it like the rest of the raised areas on the coin. Plus if it was glue or something, I'm guessing it wouldnt be so uniformly rubbed off the all the raised areas without a trace and leave such a perfect straight line untouched barely below the raised fields. I'd say it would have to be a flaw in the planchet.

Here's an example of what I mean. The top should follow the red line down. Not zag to the right like the yellow line which happens to follow the line through the coin exactly.

It's not like it matters if the issue with this coin is either some kind of pmd/residue or it is a planchet/plating issue. There wouldnt be a premium for it either way. I'm just wondering if the absence of rebuttals means that my opinion on what the cause was is right and maybe changed some earlier opinions.
