Hey everyone,
A while ago, I used to be into collecting coins, and I was even relatively active in this forum, but in the last couple years I have just lost interest. I was planning on selling most of my collection, so I was scrolling through ebay, checking prices for some of my coins, and realised that a number of the ones I bought a while back have increased in value by a very large amount. For example, I bought a 2013 Coronation Dollar C mint marked with the little folder thing back when it was released, and looking at ebay now, it seems to be worth in excess of almost $400. Its a similar story with a couple of my other items as well, such as the 30th anniversary of the $2 coin folder that I picked up, which is now worth around $500.

When I saw these figures, I figured that now would be a good time to sell up (I also have a rather large collection of Australian pennies and world coins), but I thought I check here first to see whether that's a good idea, or whether waiting out a bit longer could possibly garner an even bigger price. I've been out of the game for a little while now, so I am unaware of where the current prices fit in the scheme of things. I'd be more than happy with the current prices, but I want to make sure that I'm not making a stupid decision and selling in a slump, if you know what I mean.

So what are your recommendations? Is now a good time to sell? Should I wait a month or so?
Thank you in advance.

Depends personally I believe loads of PNC and first day items are really overpriced, but that's from a personal taste. No one but you can make this decision to sell as I usually think is best way to decide obviously its very hard to tell you for certain that items are overprice relative to future prices, as I don't have a crystal ball. What can tell you is many of the coloured coins and C Mintmarked have flipped many times compared to their retail values maybe x5-x10 in the past 5-10 years.

This being said many of the precious metals coins have move mostly with the melt values however the rarer grades MS have moved significantly however the iconic rare coins have slide a bit in terms of prices.

Do with this info what you will.

I would say now would not be the best time, possibly in the next few years you could sell, but I'd hold on to 'em.

The prices on ebay, were they asking prices or sold prices?

yes they are sold prices yeah doesn't happen in the US, or aleast not as dramatic. However for us some particular C mintmarked card coloured coins go for a near insane level that being said coins dealer 0.0 are just as desperate to make a deal if you have some at nosebleed levels.

the only ones that I have heard of that rapidly increase in prices for the North Americans is the Canadian UFO coin.

Just my opinion but the price of coloured $2 coins seems ridiculous at the moment - the bubble will have to burst sooner or later so I personally would get rid of them sooner rather than later.
Predecimal stuff I'd probably hold out on for now - I don't think prices are overly low but they have probably dropped a bit in the last decade. A 1923 halfpenny now seems appreciably cheaper than it used to be for example.
