As long as you paid MS-61 money...
Maybe NGC was in a particular bad mood the day of grading. Send to PCGS for review?

If you bought this as an MS-61, it might be reasonable to try a crossover at PCGS, perhaps setting a minimum grade. It sure looks better than 61.

I bought it already graded and I do think I got it for a good price.
Will have to ask my dealer if it's worth taking a stab at a PCGS crossover.

Surprisingly, there isn't a huge price increase as you go from 61 to 62 and 63 for this date. Nevertheless, this coin looks under graded. It would very likely grade PCGS 61 if you send it for crossover. If you are seeking an upgrade you might do better cracking it out and sending it to PCGS as a raw coin.
Nice, valuable coin in any case. Looks a lot better than my VG example!

Why cross it over? That's an expense that likely would not be recouped. Looks like it could (should) have graded 62 but who knows, maybe NGC market graded it from AU58 into an MS holder. Anyway, nice coin for the grade!

Do you think this might crossover at PCGS?

there is about a $300 jump from 61 to 62 and another $1700 jump to get to 63. PCGS is tough on morgans but I cant see even them coming in less than 62. I'm still at 63 on this coin unless there is something we cant see on the photo that can be seen in hand. the strike on this coin is typical for 79CC so I cant see them deducting for that more than 1/2pt. I would be inclined to submit to PCGS raw as suggested so that they are not swayed by the slab grade

I showed the coin to my LCS dealer and he thinks it's an AU58 and suggested I'm lucky it got that grade.
I dont want to break it out as if it came back a 58 it would crush me.
I'll just enjoy it and I've caught him under grading before when I sent in a coin I thought was a 63 and he sold it to me as a 62... saying I was crazy to send it in... came back a 64 and I even got it CAC stickered...lol... He was a bit salty at PCGS... Made me feel good though !

I don't see where or how this coin falls in to AU territory?

I would have thought the amount of nicks is consistent with MS-62, but I would be happy to accept the MS-61 NGC opinion. CCF opinions (including mine), were in a narrow range at around only one grade point higher.
After all is said and done, they are all only opinions including NGC, or any other TPG, for that matter.

I'm thinking your LCS dealer was attempting to buy this coin at a reduced price. the coin is MS. the flat breast and hair around the ear are typical for this year but imo would not affect the grade enough to drop it a full point. I've seen worse coins in 63 holder
