I'm not a professional seller but I wanted to sell some coins for extra money. I put about 18 tracked packages in the post office mailbox 4-5 days ago and there is no record of tracking or item received by USPS. I am very worried about this as totals are about $2,000.

Anyway, I was aware of long shipping times because I myself have been waiting for a coin seemingly stuck in Phoenix for 3 weeks.

So, I wanted to buy insurance, but when I chose that shipping option on ebay postage sales, I happened to read the fine print and it said coins or bullion aren't covered. How do you handle insurance? I have a few more auctions ending and am really afraid about sending anything else.

Thanks

When you look at the shipping insurance selection on the mailing page you can opt for USPS insurance.
If I recall correctly click on the insurance selection and USPS will show up as the other option.
Select it.

I wasn't aware of USPSs policy of not covering coins or bullion. I have always just sent items and insured them appropriately. I've never had to start a claim for anything, guess I've been lucky. Glad you brought that fine print to my attention. I look forward to seeing others responses.

The USPS insurance claims process is a hoop-jumping nightmare.

USPS insurance does cover collectible coins but does not cover "cash". It is a catch-22 situation.

I had a claim for about 300$ a few years ago. The pkg made it to the delivery post office and a signature was required at delivery. The pkg never was delivered nor was a signature obtained. This drug on for weeks. Finally I filed a claim. Submitted the paperwork along with documentation supporting values. The claim was denied and the appeal was rejected 2x. On the 3rd appeal the claim was approved. I got my reimbursement about 2 weeks later.

With the cost of USPS insurance, the difficulty of getting a claim approved, and the infrequency of losing a package, I've decided to essentially self-insure. Fortunately, I haven't had a tracked package lost so far.

Usps is reliable enough that the insurance is not worth it to me and I'll eat the cost if a package gets lost

There is dire need of real competition in the small items postal/shipping market.

Insurance has to be purchased at the time of mailing, not after they were dropped in the mailbox..
