My guess is he's keeping the NGC and PCGS coins in their slabs, since he's partaking in the NGC Registry with a digital Dansco 7070 set. But that's just my guess.
Separately, while keeping the coins in their slabs keeps one from the physical pleasure of holding the coins directly in your hand, the slabs do provide protection from accidental damage when holding the coins directly, environmental damage, and also reduces the risk to a great extent of you (or your heirs) of having to renegotiate the grade of that raw coin with a buyer. PCGS nd NGC will not automatically assign the same grade, even if you show them the cert, since as noted, the coin could have been damaged once removed from the slab.

3 of the coins I had waiting to be approved got approved, so I am today at number 167 and 46% complete. I still have 3 coins that are just traveling throughout the state. One is 12 days in shipping to me.... Other than that here is today's coins (please note some of the coins pictured were picked up weeks ago).

Curious as to what kept the innovation dollar from a "70"?

The answer is $$$$. It would have cost more to get one as PF70UC, lol In all seriousness, I think for many of these you need at least a 5x loupe to see what they saw. Tough to tell from photos.

Currently in moderns there is a small premium for PF 70, considering that the majority of coins the difference isn't noticeable, I'll stick with a PF69 and a savings.

2 of the 3 coins that have been traveling around the US for about 2 weeks are actually..... OUT FOR DELIVERY Lets see if I actually get them today. But for you my fellow traveler on my virtual and slabbed 7070 adventure you get a dime today. A pretty dime and in silver but still a dime.

I suppose you could add the slabs to your registry set and THEN crack them open? Or are you supposed to provide"evidence" of a slab at a moment's notice?

@numisEd,
I could take the coins out of the slab, and for every other album I have they have been but as there are a few high cost coins in the 7070, I wasn't keen on unslabbing the coins. Currently my most expensive coin was a 1909 S VDB which I purchased unslabbed from a dealer I trust. The 7070 has a few coins that I can't get locally, hence slabbing makes sense as I can assure grade and authenticity more than unslabbed. I also noticed that locally slabbed coins sell for no more than a slabbed coin. So why not go slabbed for this one set?

There is no "Big Brother" watching. Each collector can do anything with their coins that makes the most sense to them. With that said, my post at the top of this page 3 lists some significant disadvantages of cracking coins out of slabs. I also mention an advantage.

I guess it depends on what your objective is regarding collecting coins. I'm just doing it for fun and like the coins to be in a nice album. But if you are competitive and want to resell them later, slabs make sense.
