Hi, I bought this 10 $ Indian Head and I really like it, but there is a weird „line" (I don't really know how to call it) going through „E pluribus". Do you have any idea what that is? It looks very weird to me that this line just goes through the letters „u" and „s" as if they weren't even there. Thanks for your help!!

Can you give us a good close-up of that area, please. to the CCF!

A more focused close up of that area would help. If the line is raised, it might be a small die gouge or heavy die polishing line.

Is it raised, indented or flush with the surface?

@Coinfrog: It is definitely not raised, but I am not sure wether it is flush with the surface or indented... It looks different depending on lighting and angle.

Guessing this is just an incidental contact bruise.

If it's not raised, perhaps a streak of toning or a light contact mark as @Coinfrog said.

Looks like it's a contact rub.

But I still don't understand how this contact rub can go right through the raised letters. I would have expected the raised letters to protect the small fields in between them...

Prior to encapsulating, something may have been forcefully aid on top of the coin or if in a flip maybe another coin smacked it when turning pages, (?), just a guess.

.900 gold will tone over many decades. This coin is somewhat of a faint 'woody' where copper is slightly enriched in this area and has toned a bit more that the slightly richer gold alloy next to the streak. Don't worry - it is definitely not a 'problems' coin for this reason. And it certainly hasn't affected the original luster in this region.
