This coin was in my father's toolbox for god knows how long. He was cleaning it out and gave me whatever change happened to be in it.

With only 10 Roosevelt dime die trails listed on traildies.com and this one not being on there yet, I think this is a pretty good find!

You can see some die clash marks peeking through the deterioration and polishing, I'm going to guess that's what lead to the heavy polishing that made the trails.

Wow! That is some strong trailing. Certainly a unique example. Are you going to list it?

The website says they're not taking new attributions right now. So I'll be waiting to get this one listed.

Tanman, I've seen some pretty substantial trail dies before but this one takes the cake. Those are massive lines.

Something seems off with these to me. That's a clash in the nose and the reverse. The "trail" on the right of the E and the Y are going the wrong way, right? Die Deterioration?

@Willburton

Yes those are clash marks on the nose and on the reverse. And I'm not sure what you are referring to as "going the wrong way". All of the lines are parallel, as you'd expect from a typical example of die trails.

Tanman what I'm trying to say is that on most trail dies I've seen the trails are on one side of the affected letter(s). On your coin the trails seem to be going north and south on the E? And only north on the Y. The rest are southerly. This may not make any sense to anyone but I tried.

The trails come off of some of the elements on both sides because the die polishing or abrasion that caused the lines was done in a back-and-forth motion, at least that's my first thought. Definitely not as common an occurrence as trails that only come off one side though.
