Hello everyone! I'm fairly new to coin collecting, been going through coins for a few weeks now. It's pretty fun!

I'm a little confused though...I came across this 1979 Lincoln Cent through circulation and it looked pretty wicked.

The face of this cent caught my eye initially, there were multiple raised areas that were worn, obviously they were the most convex part of the face and it didn't look natural to the mint design. I flipped over this sucker though and boy howdy were there rough pits everywhere on the reverse. My question to whomever reads this is as follows: is this post mint damage or some kind of crazy mint error? Thank you all for your time!

There is nothing in the minting process that could do this. PMD.
Not eth pit directly correspond to the flattened areas on the front. Someone took some sort of small punch or object, laid the cent on a hard surface, and went at it. Why? Some things we never know.

Earle42, thank you very much for your reply and insight on the matter! I'm sad to hear it's PMD, but hey, I guess that's the way she goes sometimes.

Seems to be a slight die mis-alignment on the obverse.
