Hey Kurt!
That's one fast pony you sent the tripod on.
Here already tonight and I have put it to a little use.
It works really well and I'll have it permanently mounted to a side bench near my PC next week or earlier.
I took a couple images and I see a much improved shot although lighting will be the next project.

Here's my 1st out of holder images. I just grabbed a fairly nice nickel off the stack,
and I hoped to get the D/D mint mark showing but not yet.
I'll get it though, you can see the light came slightly from the right and shaded it.
THANK YOU SIR! I love it!

Wow...that sure was fast for the distance!
Great shots! Glad it works so well--I thought it would be pretty versatile.

I have one almost identical. The only problem with the small ones is that any camera with some weight to it will just tip it over. You need an opening between the legs when you angle the camera down to get the coin into view, and there goes all of your leverage. Be ready to tape somthing to the legs. My current tripod has telescoping legs that go to 4 ft I think, which helps distribute the weight better when they are extended, and works much better. For the small point and shoot cameras, anything will do. For any larger body point and shoot or SLR you will need something relatively sturdy. I actually like Kurt's model in that you don't have to worry about the legs when trying to get a coin into the view of the camera.

Yep , my camera is smallish (A530) and it does like you say seem too heavy for the mini tri pod I got from ebay.Im hoping it works ok although I still need to help balance it.Ill post some results if they turn out reasonable.

Yep--the tripod legs scissor open, which I'm glad comes in handy
