Hi,

I'm thinking of sending some coins in for conservation.

1895-S 50c PCGS MS63 that I noticed some greenbluewhite gunk on the reverse (PVC?) And the coin has some overall toning that might benefit from a conservation .

1905-O 25c PCGS AU53. Dark/Black toning. Might not be a good choice because of the value but the coin has other values to me.

1920-S 25c NGC MS63. Has some rather unpleaseing toning on the reverse. Otherwise an excellent coin

Im guessing I'll be paying atleast $200 per coin for conservation/grading/shipping since I'll send it via their office in Europe. I don't want the coins to downgrade after conservation but wouldn't be sad if they got a better grade.

Should I sent them all in their slabs or should I crack the one/ones that is from the other Company out?

Wich of PCGS/NCS would be the best choice in this case?

I'm not in a hurry and I don't think the coins will take that much damage from waiting a year or two if I happen to find other coins that can be conserved to get the shipping cost down abit. The 1895 is the only one I'm concerned about.

not if either will address toning, unless artificial.

I would leave them in the slabs and leave the risk of cracking to them.

I suggest letting the services crack them out too, especially if you select PCGS conservation. NCS/NGC has done a good job for me in the past but I'm sure PCGS would do a good job too.

If memory serves, both PCGS and NCS/NGC will examine any holdered coin to see if conservation is a viable option before proceeding.

PCGS will guarantee the grade after conservation only on coins that are already in PCGS holders. If you send them an NGC holdered coin, they will remove it from the holder, conserve it, and then grade it as a RAW coin.

I don't believe NCS/NGC has any guarantee after conservation on any coin including coins already in NGC holders. But they also won't mess with one unless they think they can conserve it properly.
