Hello all,
I found this coin the Southern Tier of NY in the river and am having a heck of a time IDing it. I can make out what looks like a crown on the one side but other than that I have no idea. It is basically the same size as a Half Dime but I'm 99% sure it's copper. Diameter is 15.1 MM and it weighs 1.13g Any help is greatly appreciated

to CCF. Probably going to need close ups. Maybe try some black and white pics also.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I messed with filters and this is probably the best I could get it to show any details left which are little to none. I hate having coins I can't positively ID

@df, first welcome to CCF. Second, unless you are sure that this is an old US coin (and it sounds like you aren't) then I think that this thread belongs in our unidentified subforum. I'll move it over there now and if we get anywhere with it, then can move it a second time to a final resting place.

If the object you've circled is indeed a crown (and I'm not sure it is), its shape reminds me of the crown used on Iran coins of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

I could not find a match in copper or bronze for that size, but here is an example of a larger coin (just as an example of that style crown) https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces62084.html

Doesn't make much sense that such a coin would be in a river in NY, though. So maybe it's a star, a maple leaf ...

Sorry Spence was thinking it was US from where I found it but definitely possible it's not US and I'm beginning to think it probably is a foreign coin

Ty for the info TD! It might not be a crown but it's the only thing on the coin that might help ID it. Where I found it it I would think maybe a European coin but at this point anything is possible

Yes, "southern tier" NY (probably not too far from where I grew up) makes one think of a small Dutch or English coin, but I see nothing this small in copper in Numista.
