I stopped by the bank today to get a box of pennies and ask for the usual halves or "Big dollar" coins.

To my surprise the teller says I have "these" and shows me two plastic tubes full of Ike dollars "but they aren't silver"

That's fine...I'll take them all, I need as many as I can get for my slot machine

Then the next teller over says "do you want some half dollars?" "These are silver"

Well heck yeah, I'll take those too!!

here they are, 2x 40%ers, one 1982-S clad proof, 3 Franklins and 14 90% Kennedy's

Stopped-At-The-Bank-Today.

The box of pennies didn't produce too much but I did get a nice AU 1951-S wheatie along with a few avg wheats.

Cool! I bet the teller was trying to save the silver ones for herself.

Oh man...if I only were so lucky. She deserves something for the holidays.
Here, when I asked for halves...the bank says I need to buy in $500 increments.

I could tell the 1st teller didn't want to hand over those silver halves but what could she do? the 2nd teller had them in her own tray and offered them to me!

Wow - nice score!!

I had a teller give me a 90% half and say "This one's silver!" Like she was excited for me. I don't get it. Why would a teller do that when they could buy them (or arrange for a friend to buy them)?

Where do you bank I wish that would happen to me! I've asked every time for halves etc for the last several times I've been to the bank and no luck so far. The tellers told me they rarely see even Kennedy halves. You got a VERY cool find there

I've had only one teller do that with a 40% half, and like you said, she said it like she was excited for me. Guess she knew it was going to a good home and not the melting pot.
