1931 Philadelphia mint Lincoln Cent sold on ebay in active auction: 7 bids, final bid $3.98. I'd grade it at AG, at best. What is so special about this ugly, common date penny
that makes it worth four bucks?

I will confess that I made a bid on it: 17 cents, which I figured was 15 cents more than it was worth.

Yes, a woody. I gave up years ago trying to understand why people bid what they do on ebay. I just roll with it--people being people. By-the-way, what were the shipping costs, and how many bidders were there?
Rest in Peace

Highly worn and cleaned, worth 5 cents IMO.

Not sure if something is going on with the surfaces, but sharpness grade would be Fine, probably Fine 12. If there are surface problems it might net grade as an AG but I would think Net of G-4 would be closer.

It could be friends building feedback history.

In reply to questions:
These are actual pictures from the auction that I recropped and scaled down. There were 7 bid, and yes, free shipping. The free shipping makes it a bargain, I guess. I'm heartbroken that I was outbid, and maybe should have gone higher than $0.17, but the rent was due.
