I really LOVE this coin but I won't be getting it because I loathe the edge lettering. In fact, there is plenty of room on the SOL side for the date and mm. You could put the date and mm where it says In God We Trust and move In God We Trust along the left side. Then get rid of $1 and put ONE DOLLAR along the right side. Thoughts?

Would be a good coin to put into general circulation so that all of America can be reminded of, and celebrsate the achievement.

There is too much unused space on the statue (reverse?) side for my liking. I do like the telescope (obverse?) side however.

What a cool coin. I agree that it would be nice to release as a circulating coin. Also I'm not a great fan of its layout. I agree that there is some serious rearranging that could happen to give the obverse at least some eye appeal. Way to much of nothing going on. Is this a U. S. Mint released coin? Edit: I answered my own question. It is from the U. S. Mint. https://www.space.com/hubble-space-...ar-coin-saleEdit II: Looks like we are stuck with the sparse Statue of Liberty obverse until at least 2032 when the bill expires to mint the Innovation Dollar Coins.

I was using Google trying to find out why edge lettering was chosen for dollar coins, however, my search came up short. I did find this site http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page33.html but it doesn't address what I was looking for.

The reverse proof of this coin is really nice. Mine arrived today.

This might be the best reverse of the set so far. It looks good in the business strike and proof strike. In the reverse proof strike it is outstanding. And I love the obverse. Lady Liberty stands out. The view of her raised arm with the torch is unencumbered by distractions. Simple yet refined.

I should add that I do like the Hubble design.

Seems like a good enough reason. But still, the obverse is stark.

They moved stuff front/back for the quarters, no reason they could do the same for the dollars. The edge lettering here is unnecessary.

They would end up being stored at taxpayer expense like the rest of them. https://www.npr.org/2011/06/28/1373...nobody-wantsAlthough this article is ~10 years old now, I cannot find any news about the coins still being in storage or recycled or ? I wonder what happened to them. I do like the Hubble design, but as has been mentioned, the other side is overly non-filled with design. My thoughts also. They never seem to learn what collectors like and dislike anymore.

Quote: They would end up being stored at taxpayer expense like the rest of them. Yup. Need to kill off the dollar note if you want that to work, otherwise, just leave them NIFC.
