Way too many notes for one thread. You do have some interesting notes here. Please show us both sides of one or two notes at a time - I'd love to contribute. But with this many notes, the replies get mixed up. to the CCF!

Removed some of the notes. Keeping the Series 1902's. Is this still too many?

Wow, two generations of lineage. It's also interesting that they're all $5 notes. Are you aware of any connection between the cities selected and your grandfather ? Is there a reason you don't want to keep them ?

All but the Fairmont note are very scarce, though not rare. All are well-worn and several damaged. Maybe $200-300 each as a general value, less for the Fairmont. Just a guess.

Actually three, I missed a generation. The notes are from WV, which is where my great grandfather was from. Money is tight right now, which is why I want to get rid of them. Would have been cool to have them framed though...

I did some searching and found that two Reedy, WV notes have been sold at Heritage Auctions. One for $6,000 and the other for $2,000. Would mine be less because of their condition?

Good for you doing the research. When did the Heritage notes sell, and what were the the listed grades? You could have a sleeper here.

I'm not in to US currency, or notes in any fashion, so can not comment on momentary value.
BUT, will say... hang on to at least a few for the sake of the next generation...

My old Krause book shows the Reedy, Bluffton, and Carnegie notes as a "6" rarity (1-6 scale), the Weston note as a "4" rarity, and the Fairmont note as a "2" rarity. Not really up-to-date, but certainly tells me some of these notes are hard to come by. Condition is obviously not great, but these are still notes that a lot of people would like to have. You are doing the right thing searching HA and other auction sites for similar sold notes (vice "for sale" prices) to get an idea of value. I believe these national banknotes can vary in price from auction to auction based on whether or not you happen to have multiple people bidding that are interested in that specific city or bank.

Quote: I wanted to share a few bank notes that my father has passed down to me from his grandfather. Are these the same ones you found in your basement awhile ago? You are actually going to sell them? http://goccf.com/t/269326&whichpage=1

The one for $6,000 sold in 2005 and seems to be in much better condition. The one for $2,000 sold just a few years ago and seems to be about in the same condition as mine. I don't see any of my other notes on the site at all.

Well, if money is tight, this might be a good time to consider selling a few of them. Heritage doesn't charge you for their evaluation and estimates.

Any thoughts on how I can get an idea of how much these are worth? There are very few of these that have sold on ebay and Heritage and for the ones that have sold, the price varies significantly. Are ebay and Heritage my best options to sell these? Where else can they be sold? Auctions? Also, do you think that I need to have these graded before placing them on the market?
