My inclination is to leave this one with its patina intact. Your thoughts?

Absolutely leave the beautiful patina in tact! That's part of its 1000+ year story!

Leave it alone, it's a nice coin. I bought a huge lot of these coins when I first started collecting not knowing what they were. Years later, I still don't know as I am immersed in Roman Imperial Coinage at the moment.

Another detail regarding this coin - apparently they were minted in two distinct diameters, the first being "around 25mm" with the second type coming in at "around 24mm", this latter size being far more prevalent. Of course, my example measures 24.5mm making identifying it as one variety or the other rather problematic.

@lc, sometimes the width of the flat rim is also diagnostic. Does Hartill mention any differences beyond the diameter?

Gorgeous as is, colors are great. I like the deep relief on this one.
