This to me means I shouldn't even be thinking about spending money on coins. I would pass on the coin and hope another comes when times are better.

Pay off the credit cards, then worry about coins. Opportunities will always present themselves down the road.

My experience in collecting coins and all kinds of other antiques and collectibles proved to work out best when I kept my best and sold the rest.Another motto I lived by as best as I can now is sell it when it's hot and buy it when it's not.

Things go in cycles as far as prices and popularity go. The best condition coins seem to always do well overall.
The lesser coins can always be had just as easily tomorrow.

I just think that the OP was being funny about stealing.
An MS70 coin that is stolen would still not shine in anyone's collection if it were not an honest acquisition.

Technically, by the OP's words in the poll, you "have to have it"! So that would mean you would beg, borrow, or steal to get it! He just presented the options.. the voters provided the fodder for discussion

(and NO it wasn't me who voted for stealing - I voted to sell stocks They're in the tank anyway - if I sold 'em I might be able to buy .. half a coin? )

The missing Question is , Would it motivate you to sell your doubles or your extra pieces ? I am always to lazy to sell so I sit and watch sometimes.

How about threatening to have yourself committed until your friends and family chip in to raise the fund to purchase the coin for you
