Just read in Coin World that PCGS starting Dec.1, will no longer "body bag" coins except those that are holed, plugged,or have pvc damage. On submissions forms dated Jan.1 and later, you will have the option to "opt out" of this and have your coins not slabbed with the "genuine" holder. Submission prices remain the same as far as I understand. They will have new code numbers on the slab for: artificial color,cleaning,scratch/rim dent, environmental damage, planchet flaw, damage. The slab will now read GENUINE NOT GRADABLE. PCGS Genuine will appear below the date and Mint mark and denomination designation. I am still in favor of what NCS does with the details grade. Any thoughts?

Sounds like they are trying to increase revenues by retaining market share lost to ANACS and ICG for questionable coins. I think they are shooting themselves in the foot with the Genuine Not Gradable instead of a details grade qualification. nlp

Exactly my thoughts. What do they mean Not Gradable. Unless the coin is horribly corroded, you can still see details enough to grade. Perfect example would be a coin that is scratched. They can't grade that?

I'd like to see a "details" grade, too. But PCGS thinks of themselves as being too elite to start doing that. I'd still send questionable coins to ANACS.

I've noticed that about PCGS, they tend to be a-- backwards when it comes to some trends. Like this one, why did it take them so long to figure there is a major market like problem coins? Too elite? Maybe. I love their slabs though.

I just happened to mail a "questionable" coin to them upon learning of this change.

Its an 1860 IHC with questionable color with very high details. I'll let you guys know what becomes of it when it comes back!
