Do you guys think this could get body bagged by PCGS because of the rim nick right next to the T and the E in UNITED

Your coin might have another problem in that it appears to have close to uncirculated detail but virtually no luster. That might be the result of over-dipping or some similar chemical cleaning process. It's hard to be sure what a TPG will do, but my guess is that PCGS would reject this one, either for the rim dent or because they decide it has "altered surfaces".

The 1862 is a common date and even in MS-60 it typically sells for less than $100 retail. You have to decide whether it would be worth spending the grading fee even if it does get slabbed as, say, an AU-50.

Just my opinion. Good luck!

I believe you stated in the grading thread that you scanned these images so the absence of luster is irrelevant(scans will not show luster). I am not so sure that is a rim nick- it looks smooth and uniform with no sharp irregular angles like damage should produce, perhaps an as-minted void from being struck through scrap or something like that? A rim ding that big should disturb the edge and the denticles, neither of which I am seeing. Closer, clearer pictures outside of the 2x2 will be needed to determine one way or the other.

I don't have an opinion about the bodybag question but I am curious why you would want this one slabbed. If it doesn't make MS it won't be worth $100 even in a PCGS slab. Economy grading is $18 not counting shipping both ways. The possible return doesn't seem worth the price. Do you need this coin for a registry set? Will this be one of those free submissions you get for joining PCGS?

The reason I wanted it slabbed it not because of value, but because I would like it protected better for my collection. I would NEVER sell any of my IHCs, and I figured that $18 would be worth it.

And there is a rim nick, you just cannot see it that well.

I don't believe it was cleaned, and some luster is lost through the plastic and my cruddy scanner.

I just might be submitting 2 others and I figured why not protect this one was well.

If you are going to keep the coin forever there's nothing wrong with storing it however you want.

I don't see a rim nick, I see a very slight clipped planchet. And a bad spot by the second T in STATES.

That's a lot larger than a rim nick. I'm with biokemist6. Appears to be a rim that has possibly been "struck thru" something. Does not look like post mint damage. As far as getting it slabbed, depends. If you plan on never getting rid of it and want that coin protected long term, go for it. PCGS WILL NOTslab coins that have rim nicks they deem are severe nor will they slab coins with pvc residue or that are holed.
