Found this today. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts. Pretty rough shape. Looking at the cent I cant see any copper even under a 10X lens. I am a rookie to all this but wanted to know if I am seeing this right. Do you think someone chemically removed it?

That's my first impulse is to say that someone chemically removed the copper plating but let's wait for the pros to chime in.

Not a pro, but I think that the most likely explanation is the one given by @chafe.

I believe this coin was chemically altered. Could be environmental or deliberately in a HS chemistry class, who knows? Upon a closer examination, the subject coin appears to be a slight copper colour under the rim reverse top. Could just be lighting or left ever copper. There are two possibilities: copper has been removed OR the coin has been plated in pewter or zinc. Weight should be relativity close either way. Just a theory.

The surface should be very smooth:

Looks more like a YouTube example that added zinc to a dirty coin.
