JohnWayne007 Pillar of the Community Canada 1186 Posts	Posted 01/13/2021 9:20 pm Was looking through a box of world coins and tokens I have and I found this one in there, I'm assuming someone used it for target practice but I was curious if anyone could help me with a date? ~~I am getting mixed answers on google since there are apparently a few varients~~. I see a lot of these for other places going for somewhat decent premiums, but never actually seen one for Bellville and I'm sure the damage would drastically hurt any type of premium if there were one. Edit: I fixed the post, realized its not a 1 Sou. Wade Pillar of the Community Canada 2781 Posts	Posted 01/13/2021 10:06 pm they are commonly available in VF/XF, with AU+ pulling some decent prices (AU $100) unfortunately, as you point out, your example is damaged, probably reducing it to around $10 these were weakly struck and always show the same monster die crack, and are often under-graded by traditional standards. if I remember the story correctly, these were created for someone else, who rejected the design, so they added the U and circulated it in Canada (we were massively short on coin at the time) Report this Post to the Staff
1960NYGiants Pillar of the Community United States 666 Posts	Posted 01/13/2021 10:14 pm It's listed as LC-45, Br 670. Neither gives a possible date of manufacture. The token was originally designed for Tobias D. Seaman of Belleville, NJ but it was rejected. The letter U was added to the die and these were issued. Tobias lived from 1811-1859.
