That is neat. I would guess that they didn't polish after that die work.

Looks like the wire brush fell into the depths of die on the nose and also the bottom of the jaw. No tooling, just a terrible job of polishing the die. Note how the scratches are raised above the design?

Well this and about 280 other coins are off to PCGS for Bulk and Economy orders. Brain R thinks this will MS-66 or maybe 67. I have it as an MS-65, but bought it from him at what ever grade it returns as.

As far as being wire brushed, I don't think so Coop. The overall depth of the lines as well as the tops of the lines shape leads me too believe tooling. With the die steel being as hard as it has to be, I can't believe wire "even short stubby bristles are hard or stiff enough due this type of damage to this post hardened die.

Very cool coin. Agree that the lines appear too thick and wavy to be errant die polishing. They look like die gouges, or tooling as you say. I can't imagine this was accidental--it almost looks like deliberate defacing of the die.

definitely nice tone, and such a cool over worked worker on the die must have been a monday coin lol.
