The main grade that I seem to have a problem with is the difference between VG8 & F12. I'm including pics of a 1919D & a 1917S - Obv.
I apogize for the picture of the 17S, beacause it scanned very dark & looks toned when in reality, it's a bright coin w/ no toning. The price on these 2 coins triples from VG8 - F12. Can I squeak an F12 out of them?

Thanks

The main difference between F-12 and VG-8 on these coins is the rim and skirt lines .

in both grades the figure of liberty and the eagles breast and head will be worn smooth with only the slightest detail remaining , the eye being the deepest should be visable and the stars and stripes should be able to be seen being protected by the rim and high points of the devices .

The reverses of both are very similar with the first coin showing just slightly more wear that the second .

I admit that part of my grade for the coins is based on the known weakness in strike for the coins .

Both coins based on the inherent weakness of these coins especially in the very early dates IMO makes both of these coins F-12.
