Good afternoon everybody! I have been searching google (and the forum) for what this might be, but I'm coming up empty. What is going in with the 1 in the date? I thought damage at first but it's a nice clean turn, and I can't see evidence that the top of the 1 was ever in any other position. Is this just lucky damage?    |

Might be a die chip, like that just under the loop of the 9.

It has taken a hit pushing the top part of the 1 over. You can see where the inside of the loop on the 9 has also been affected. PMD |

I have to disagree with JimmyD and be on the coinfrog lillypad, because I have this coins "die brother" and I remember in the past couple of years 2 or 3 of these have been posted with the posted asking the same...answer die chips....use the search box and maybe you can come across these old posts

If it is a Die Chip, then where is the top of the 1?
In 1957 the 1 was higher than the 9. Also if you look closely, you can see the discolouration where the top of the 1 was.

Agree, we saw the twin of this coin not that long ago. You don't forget that 1.

They look like die chips to me. Very common on 50s LWCs, especially inside the loop of the 9.

I have to go with die chips as well. They seem to show up all over the place on '50s cents and very often.  |
