Rummaging through a large pile of worn 1930s wheat cents and found this. When held under a light source at an angle, woody characteristics pop out. Fun part is discovering the apparent delamination. Didn't bother to set up my better photography solution, just went with a phone camera. As such, images a little soft (low res).

Note on your last image? The lighting is perfect on it. It doesn't bleach out the color that is there. So what ever setup you used for that image, stick with that.

Yes on the lighting. Was in a hurry. My 'better' setup locks everything down--diffused lighting, correct white balance, much better resolution, sharp focus, etc. Thanks.
