Probably no big deal just looked cool. Never ran across before.
Thanks for looking and comments.

Could be a plating blister, could be a remnant of a die clash but I think this is a good candidate for being a new DDO. I would send it to Wexler

I checked with toothpick to see if I could smash it. So maybe not a blister? I tried to line up a clash. Nothing lined up obverse or reverse.

Thanks Kloccwork for your thoughts.

Is that a dent or is that little piece raised?

It could be a die polishing issue. The polisher leveled the fields and sub devices and now that area is raised on the coins. Seeing the LIBERTY area might show that if that happened. That is an area where die clashes happen, and the polishing altered the hair devices.

Could be many things but I bet it could be listed as a DDO. Most Doibled ears look like a die dent. All the new shield cent doubled ears look like a die dent to me but they list it as a DDO. I would still send it to Wexler. It's interesting for sure.

I found this several of these in a roll back in 2011.:

I would call these doubled dies, as they don't look anything like the hubs design.

May be no way to know for sure, but it appears to follow the contour of the coin and not the shape of the ear. That would be more indicative of a die dent.

It is interesting. I thought about the shield doubled ears also. Even 2006P-1DO-018 or WDDO-045.

I thought maybe a clash. Tried several different clash angles even counter clash nothing came close. There's nothing anywhere on the coin that looks to be a clash.
