Are not both caused by missing die.
Is it just a matter of severity?

Cuds involve rim breaks of the die(and part of the design/fields, or it would be just a "rim Cud"), while chips are interior breaks.

While Cud's are generally larger, any die break that involves the rim could be considered a Cud, even if it's very small. AFAIK

They are both produced by a damaged/cracked,broken dies.
