Right, I got this today in a local trade. I personally can't grade any coins because I severely lack the artistic shiskabob. So, here's the coin. Please help me grade it. And also, is it worth it to send it in to be graded? Here's the better obverse Yeah... imageshack was on the fritz and I couldn't copy/paste! Here's the reverse A better reverse picture Thanks all! That is one NICE coin! Can you put a reverse picture up? It would make the grading more accurate.

Can you take out of the holder? From the looks of the headband/feathers, looks to be AU.

Looks AU from what I can see. Incuse coins are tough - Could be MS?
Slabbing would likely be for authentication only, unless it's high mint state.

beautiful incused 2.5 with AU-50 details ... some breast feather and headdress wear and light scratching prevents this from being graded AU-58 or higher worth around $300...enjoy!

Definitely worth getting slabbed in my opinion, mainly to protect the gold.

So... the question now is either PCGS or NGC... or maybe I can sell it again!
So anyone have more opinions about the grade?

I think I see enough evidence of rub over the headdress and around the date to rule out a mint state grade. Also, the fine scratches might be considered evidence of abrasive cleaning which would generate a body bag (no grade) at NGC and the new "genuine" (no grade) result from PCGS.
Unless it had a better shot at making a no-problem MS grade I wouldn't invest the grading fee. PCGS charges $30 to grade gold coins. Even if it does come back as, say, an AU-55, the slab might make it easier to sell but would probably not increase the price significantly over a raw coin. I doubt you would recover the grading fee when it comes time to sell.
