where do you see zinc rot? I see dirt and grime, and even some algae maybe or some sort of verdigris, I'm not seeing zinc rot though. looks like a drain penny in my opinion.
Regardless of what people are going to say, absolutely try the acetone, and it is a circulated cent, hand pocket, circulation friction is acceptable, just nothing harsh. carefully cleaning it with a hair paintbrush or a hair brush in general won't do much worse and might take out the caked on deposits.
Normally when I see zinc rot, I see a popped blister or a crater or something, and I don't see that here it could be calcium and algae deposits from hard water. along with some dirt and grime.
I see a small issue on the O in ONE on the reverse bottom left, I see some split plate doubling on UNITED STATES on the flat letter tops. I don't see a tion of zinc corrosion to go along with it though.
No matter what it's a 2000
WAM, the most common, it's not gonna make you rich but I think it can be salvaged and wind up respectable when you're done. Wont' be high grade for sure, but again it's circulated to begin with.
the copper may be mostly intact and once you get the gunk out of there, you can then evaluate the exposed zinc. no matter what though you can knock off the zinc oxide to get to clean zinc, then put it up in a flip or 2x2 and leave it be and a slight layer of zinc oxide will form over the exposed zinc and that's it, stopping it from sacrificing more and more zinc.
people are gonna say " don't clean coins" "just dip in acetone" I'm not saying do anything harsh, but I am saying it's circulated, worth maybe $5 if it were in better condition tops, and it's likely salvageable as an example of the variety with a little TLC and a soft, soft brush.
