So I'm new to this forum and found this 1987 p nickle and I'm not sure if its an error or just well circulated tell me what you think.

While you are waiting for the experts, they will ask you for
1) Close up photos (please crop them very closely to the coin)
2) What specifically you are looking at (is it the rim?)

The error this is most reminiscent of is a broadstrike, but I don't believe that to be the case since the coin doesn't look any wider than normal. You can compare the diameter to a normal nickel to be sure.
Flattening of the rims into the legend can occur from extensive wear. Given the relative lack of wear elsewhere on the coin, though, I'd say it's abrasion.

5 Grams, is what should be normal weight.
