I just took some shots of a coin for critique. I would like to know if they are good enough to arrive at a grade and also would appreciate some input. I have been trying to learn how to use the camera and optimize its attributes. The following pics were taken under two tungsten lamps with a florescent in the background to the north 12 inches away from the coin and on a 45 degree angle. The tungsten lamps are located east and west and close proximity to the coin. The tungsten lamps are much closer to the coin in the second pics. Thanks for any comments or reccommendations in advance. nlp
The photos are 'side-lit' - meaning the sides of the raised relief are lit, not the 'top-side' of the coin. In order to show the relief as it is, the camera and the lighting have to be eminating from nearly the same angle, which is tough.
To answer your question in brief - those coins could not be graded from those photos. Not enough of the detail shows because of the lighting.
